What is Muslim Culture?

How can anyone describe what Muslim culture is? It is too vast, too complex and too diverse to boil down to one single phrase or sentence.

Yet, I know it when I see it. No matter how diverse our culture is, there is a common link. No matter where Muslims happen to be, there are commonalities between us all.

There are similarities between Muslims in India, Africa, Europe, and Arabia. These similarities are not just limited to the way we pray.

Most Muslims hold the same values from Morrocco to Indonesia. Even Muslims who live in Western nations like the U.S., Canada and the U.K. have similar values.

And this is what makes Islamic culture so great.

Muslim Culture espouses:

• Modesty
• Chastity
• Respect for the elderly
• Honoring tradition
• Kindness towards children
• Masculinity in men
• Femininity in women

If I could sum up what it means to practice Islam in a few words it would be:

• Piety
• Devotion
• Sacrifice
• Consistency
• Honor
• Tradition
